Star

My friend Star Foster died today, of a pulmonary embolism. Unexpected is not a strong enough word to describe her death. She was just fine, and then she was dead. She was one of the friends I was coming to Philly to see, and now she is gone.

Star was cute as a button and sharp as a tack, the kind of person who makes you wonder what the hell you’re doing with your life. She wrote Sarcasmo’s Corner and wrote for Phillyist and Shiny Shiny and several other blogs. She was a good writer, and good at getting words on the page, although the page in this case was usually a webpage. She was an extra in a horror movie, was learning to ballroom dance, loved singing at the piano bar, loved traveling, loved Philadelphia. She took photos. She was funny, and warm, and kind.

When I got my Philly tattoo, she came with me and spellchecked it for me, saving me from having “Virtue Liberti Independence” put on my arm forever. Talking with her that day over burritos, while waiting for them to draw up my tattoo design, is one of my favorite memories of her.

She was a coffee addict, and knew the location of the closest Starbucks from pretty much any point in downtown Philadelphia.

She was one of the better human beings I have ever met, and I will miss her terribly. When thinking about the world without her in it, today, I kept thinking about the group of my friends she was a part of, about how important she was to each of us and how hard it is to think about what the hell we will do without her. There are not enough words out there to adequately describe the genius of Star C Foster.

Oh God, Cyn, I’m so sorry.
Time makes it easier, even if you never forget.

Cyn – will you let me know if you hear about a memorial service for her? I’m completely shocked.

I’ll see you Thursday at Anj’s house.

My condolences. I have never lost a close friend, so I don’t know what it is like, but it must be very hard. Just remember to think of her life and not her death and you will feel better.

I’m really sorry. That’s sad and scary at the same time, that someone can just be gone like that, but especially sad since she was your friend.
